Our services are intended to help make the best use of your particular resources, navigate crossroads, and help you plan for your future.
Investment Management Services are for clients that wish to delegate management of their portfolio and receive on-going financial planning.
Financial Planning Services are for clients who seek guidance on a limited basis that might be project-related or for a number of planning sessions. Topics include retirement planning, goal setting, wealth building strategies, debt consolidation, or another financial topic.
In either capacity, the process begins with an introductory (complimentary) meeting to see how Essex Capital Management may be able to help. We'll discuss the components of your financial picture, uncover your priorities, and at the same time try to develop an understanding of how you think & feel about money matters in general.
After the initial meeting, if the client chooses asset management services we will outline the next steps in the on-boarding process and for financial planning clients we will provide an agreement letter describing the scope of services along with an explanation of fees.
Investment Management Services
Our investment management process is very straightforward, portfolios must line up with each client’s time horizon and risk tolerance. An Investment Policy Statement (IPS) will be developed for each client that outlines their investor profile along with an asset allocation strategy. In building portfolios, we use a select group of mutual funds, ETFs, and in certain cases individual stocks and bonds. We will be clear about fees and expenses…there will be no conflict of interest when selecting investments. As fiduciaries, we always put the clients’ interests first.
For clients who wish to delegate discretionary management of their portfolio, the management fee is an annual rate of 0.95% based on assets under management with a reduced fee schedule for accounts >$1 million. Fees will be deducted from accounts on a quarterly basis through our custodian Shareholders Service Group.
Financial Planning
Financial Planning engagements will vary depending on the complexity of the project and the client needs. Our focus is to help clients identify and plan for their goals in a way that is both realistic and attainable. Typically, a comprehensive plan will involve 2 additional meetings after the initial meeting. Along the way we will have continual communication with you to properly assemble a plan that will meet your goals.
Other projects may be mapped out over an agreed upon series of meetings and some with a follow up phone call. Whatever the case may be, we remain flexible to meet the ultimate needs of our clients.
Keep in mind that your financial plan will evolve over time because of changes that occur with your goals and personal financial situation, changes in tax laws, and changes in the performance of various assets/markets. Engagements involving hourly financial planning services conclude upon delivery of advice or the plan. To stay on track with your goals, it is important to schedule periodic updates; it is each client's responsibility to initiate these follow-up meetings.
Essex Capital Management charges an hourly fee of $325 for financial planning services. At the outset of providing services, the firm and the client will enter into a written agreement setting forth the terms and scope of the services to be provided.
